How it works
Weigh the gold without stones and enter its karat. The calculator converts it to pure-gold grams and compares it with your gold nisab weight. Once the threshold is reached and the lunar-year condition and prices are confirmed, it estimates 2.5% of the gold value. The default threshold is 87.48 pure grams, following Islamic Relief; edit it if your authority uses another weight. For multiple karats, calculate each pure-gold equivalent separately, add those equivalents, and enter that total as 24k. For gold plus cash or other eligible assets, use the comprehensive Zakat Calculator instead.
pure grams = weight × karat / 24; value = pure grams × 24k price; zakat = value × 0.025 when eligibleWorked example
120g of 18k gold equals 90g of pure gold. At an illustrative 24k price of 100 per gram, its value is 9,000. It exceeds the default 87.48g gold nisab; after confirming hawl and prices, estimated zakat is 225.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does personal jewellery require zakat?
Scholars differ. The Hanafi approach includes gold jewellery; other schools can exempt permitted personal-use jewellery under their conditions. Enter only the weight included under the ruling you follow.
Which gold price should I enter?
Enter the pure 24k price per gram in your chosen currency on your valuation date. Do not enter an 18k price and also select 18k, as that reduces purity twice.
Are gemstones and making charges included?
This calculation values gold content only. Exclude stone weight and do not add retail making charges to the pure-metal price. Ask a jeweller if the metal weight or purity is unknown.
What if my gold is below nisab but I have savings?
A gold-only result is not a ruling about all your wealth. Use the comprehensive calculator to include savings and other eligible amounts under your chosen guidance.
Can I pay the estimate in cash?
The output is a monetary estimate, not a payment instruction. Confirm the permitted payment method and recipients with your trusted authority.
