How it works
Enter eligible balances on your zakat anniversary, without counting the same asset twice. The tool values gold by weight × karat / 24 × the pure-gold price, adds pure silver and your other eligible amounts, then subtracts your permitted deductions. It applies 2.5% to the whole net amount, not just the portion above nisab, when the selected threshold is met and you confirm hawl and prices. Defaults use the Islamic Relief weights: 87.48g of pure gold or 612.36g of pure silver. You can edit these weights to follow your trusted authority. This tool covers monetary wealth, not crops, livestock or zakat al-fitr.
net = max(0, eligible assets - permitted deductions); zakat = net × 0.025 if net ≥ nisab and hawl confirmedWorked example
With illustrative prices of 100 per gram of pure gold and 1 per gram of silver: cash 10,000 plus 100g of 24k gold gives 20,000. With permitted deductions of 2,000, net wealth is 18,000. The gold nisab is 8,748 and the lunar-year estimate is 450, after both confirmations.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which nisab should I choose?
Gold and silver produce different thresholds. Mixed-wealth rulings differ; ask your trusted scholar. For gold alone, use the gold calculator. The tool does not decide a religious ruling for you.
Can I deduct my whole mortgage?
Do not automatically deduct a whole long-term loan. Deductibility and which instalments qualify depend on the ruling followed. Enter only an amount you have verified as permitted.
Do all investments count at full value?
No single rule covers every portfolio. Trading holdings and long-term investments can be treated differently. Enter the eligible portion after obtaining suitable guidance, not automatically your entire portfolio.
Why is there no result before confirmation?
Example prices and an unconfirmed anniversary cannot establish your payable amount. The calculator waits for both confirmations; it does not verify that wealth satisfied the applicable hawl rules.
Is my home included?
A home for personal use is not the same as property held for sale. Do not include personal-use property in trade inventory.
Is this a Ramadan-only calculation?
No. Use your own Hijri zakat anniversary. This tool uses the lunar-year rate of 2.5%, not a solar-year adjustment.
